Your Bridge Programme
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.
Bridge will also be offered some mornings or afternoons. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
We also try to include interesting bridge seminars as part of your programme, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.
During your holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programme also allows time to relax, giving you the opportunity to explore the surrounding area.
Make your own way to the hotel.
Join our bridge team and your fellow players at the hotel for a welcome drink and dinner followed by evening bridge.
After a leisurely breakfast, we head by coach to the Royal Borough of Windsor. On arrival we make our way to Windsor Castle, the official residence of His Majesty The King. Windsor Castle is the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world. Established in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, it has been remodelled by successive kings and queens, including Edward III, Charles II and George IV, and restored during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign after the fire in 1992. Today, the castle is used regularly for ceremonial and State occasions and has been the home of 40 monarchs.
We include entry into the castle to admire the State Apartments, which are decorated with wonderful Christmas displays each year. You will enjoy free time to explore the castle and visit St George's Chapel (subject to opening times). Once outside the castle grounds, there will be time to browse the many wonderful shops and eateries, and even do a spot of Christmas shopping!
Please note: Entry to Windsor Castle is on a hill. There will be plenty of time to make the walk up to the entry point and comfortable shoes are advised.
We return to the hotel where we enjoy dinner followed by evening bridge.
Today, we enjoy a morning seminar and afternoon bridge.
This evening will include dinner and evening bridge.
After a leisurely breakfast we set off by coach for Blenheim Palace. Offering grandeur on the largest of scales, the palace was given to the 1st Duke of Marlborough by Queen Anne and her grateful nation as thanks for his stunning victory at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. Sir John Vanbrugh’s magnificent English Baroque architecture reflects not only the 1st Duke’s military achievements, but also Vanbrugh’s own feeling that the Palace should, at the same time, be a monument to Queen Anne’s glory.
The outside of the palace is just as stunning as the inside, with the parkland as you see it now, looking so natural with its sweeping lake and hanging beech wood, which is, in fact, man-made. It was constructed laboriously between 1764 and 1774 to the far-sighted plans of the master landscaper, Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
At Blenheim Palace, there’s an overarching aura of history and achievement. Couple that with a grand building in a perfect setting and there’s no wonder that UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site.
We include entry into the palace where you can enjoy the amazing Christmas displays and themes. Once outside, you can also take in the sights and smells of the Christmas market, situated in The Great Court, and stock up on festive goodies and tasty treats from the wooden chalets.
We return to the hotel mid-afternoon for a well-earned rest, before enjoying dinner and bridge this evening.
This morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before departing the hotel.
