Chris and Linda both hail from Newcastle and now live in the coastal town of Tynemouth, where they’ve settled after long and rewarding careers in education, Chris in maths and Linda in geography. Married since 1971, their shared love of bridge has been a constant throughout their lives.
Their bridge journeys began early – Chris learned at home from his mother at the age of nine, first playing Nottingham Club before moving to Acol at university and has been directing at his club since the mid-1980s. Linda started playing bridge at college, after growing up with family card games, and went on to become a county-qualified tournament director and bridge host in the mid-1990s.
They enjoy discovering new places and believe each location brings its own charm – though the Northern Lights in Scandinavia and the Mediterranean sunshine are high on their travel wish-list.
Outside of bridge, Chris and Linda are very active in their local church community, and always enjoy finding a Sunday service when travelling abroad. Linda is also a trustee for Mothers’ Union Newcastle Diocese, and both have been PCC members for many years.
Above all, Chris and Linda believe bridge is best when played in a friendly, inclusive atmosphere – and that’s exactly what they aim to create for every guest!
Top Bridge Tip from Chris and Linda: If you are playing with an unfamiliar partner, remember KISS (keep it simple!) and always spend time discussing leads and discards to make sure you both understand what you are doing!
