Your Bridge Programme
Play & Explore holidays are suited to intermediate players who wish to learn new skills, and regular players looking for a relaxed holiday with bridge.
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and playing relaxed and friendly bridge.
Bridge will also be offered some mornings or afternoons. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams. Sessions may take place in the mornings instead of the afternoons, complimenting any included excursion programme.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.
Make your own way to the hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner, followed by evening bridge.
Today we head by coach to quaint Grasmere, one of the most popular villages in the Lake District. It is best known for its association with William Wordsworth who lived in the villages of Grasmere and Rydal in 1799 and 1813 respectively.
St Oswald's Church in the village is where Wordsworth and many of his family members are buried. A trip to Sarah Nelson's Grasmere Gingerbread shop, within the churchyard, is a definite must whilst you are here. There is plenty of free time to explore at your leisure, take in the views, and enjoy the charming gift shops and lovely tea rooms and cafés before we head to Ambleside by coach.
We set sail on a full lake cruise from Ambleside to Lakeside this afternoon. Halfway down the lake at Bowness, other passengers will embark and disembark as we stay on board. Our cruise then continues to the southern end of Lake Windermere where we arrive into Lakeside. We then head back to the hotel by coach to enjoy dinner this evening.
Enjoy a bridge seminar this morning followed by an afternoon at leisure. Spend your day relaxing and enjoying the hotel facilities, or maybe explore lovely Grange-Over-Sands. The choice is yours!
This morning, we head by coach to Holker Hall & Gardens where we will be greeted by a member of the Holker team on arrival. We then enjoy a guided tour of the grand interior, including an overview of the house with time at leisure to explore the gardens.
This 17,000 acre estate with beautiful gardens is owned by the Cavendish family. Surrounding the hall, there’s a further 200 acres of parkland which are a part of the British Deer Farms & Parks Association.
This afternoon, we head to Haverthwaite for a steam-hauled return journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. This 3.2-mile track was originally constructed during the 1850s and 1860s as The Furness Railway. Due to the decline in the iron industry and the Great War, the service closed in 1938. 1946 saw the summer passenger service reintroduced which remained open until 1965. After negotiations and a refurbishment, the railway re-opened in 1973 and has remained open since.
Upon arrival back in Haverthwaite, we return by coach to the hotel.
After a leisurely breakfast, it is time to check out of the hotel and head for home.
