Known as the green resort, Albena is surrounded by the famous Baltata Nature Reserve, covering 203 hectares along the valley of the Batovska River. It is carefully planned to create a harmonious creation of nature, with open space, green trees and parkland between hotels. It is an environmentally friendly resort where over 50% of the fruit, vegetables, and premium Black Angus and Galloway meat offered in the hotels and restaurants are Albena’s own production, and the hotels only use hydrothermal mineral water in their swimming pools which has exceptional health benefits.
The highlight of Albena is its quiet, 5-star beach. Awarded a Blue Flag for its cleanliness, the wide, sandy beach is the perfect place to sunbathe. The hotel offers complimentary sunbeds and umbrella to guests on the beach, all distanced well apart, so you can simply relax and enjoy your space between bathing in the crystal-clear waters. A seafront promenade runs alongside the beach offering a selection of eateries, bars and tourist shops and facilities.
With its fantastic location, superb dining and a huge range of facilities, as well as a spacious, elegant bridge room and wonderful piano bar, our excellent 5-star hotel is the perfect place for a very enjoyable holiday!

Your Bridge Programme
Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, we try to include interesting bridge seminars, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.
Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.

Renowned for its historical significance as a thriving port town, Varna boasts a unique blend of ancient charm and modern vitality.
Our first stop is the Cathedral of the Assumption, a symbol of spiritual grandeur and architectural marvel. Our journey continues to the renowned Archaeological Museum, home to the world's oldest processed gold treasure – the legendary Varna Necropolis, dated 4600-4200 BCE. Marvel at this testament to ancient craftsmanship and gain insight into the rich cultural heritage that spans millennia. Strolling along the vibrant pedestrian zone, you'll find yourself immersed in the bustling atmosphere of Varna. Cape Kaliakra and the Palace of Balchik (Friday 20 Sept)
We set out after a leisurely breakfast to explore the northern Black Sea shore. Our first stop for the day is Cape Kaliakra. A picturesque and historically significant headland, the cape located some 28 miles from Albena. Known for its stunning natural beauty, cultural heritage, and dramatic cliff formations, Cape Kaliakra is characterised by its tall limestone cliffs that rise up to 70 metres above sea level. These cliffs offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Black Sea and the surrounding landscape. The cape also has a rich history dating back thousands of years. It was inhabited by various civilizations, including the Thracians, Romans, Byzantines, and Bulgarians. The cape's strategic location made it a significant defensive outpost throughout history.
We will visit the remains of the ancient fortifications as well as the remains of the Kaliakra Fortress. Our next stop for the day is the Palace of Balchik, an enchanting historical site located in the town of Balchik. It is renowned for its unique architecture and the exquisite botanical garden that surrounds it. The palace was built in the early 20th century during the rule of Queen Marie of Romania. It showcases an intriguing blend of architectural styles, including Balkan, Oriental, and Mediterranean influences. Queen Marie fell in love with the region and established the palace as her summer residence. She was deeply involved in the development of the palace and its surrounding gardens, which were transformed into a captivating haven of greenery.
One of the main highlights of the Palace of Balchik is its stunning botanical garden, home to an impressive array of exotic plants, trees, and shrubs. Wander through a variety of themed gardens, including a cactus garden, rose garden, and water garden.
After the visit and some free time, we return to our hotel mid-afternoon to relax before dinner and evening bridge.
