This bridge break is sure to delight. Our base is the charming Charlecote Pheasant Hotel, conveniently located opposite the stunning National Trust, Charlecote Manor & Park. During our stay we enjoy a scenic day out, as we head into the Cotswolds countryside for a journey on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, followed by a visit to Sudeley Castle & Gardens, the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within the grounds – Queen Katherine Parr. Relax and enjoy the company of fellow bridge enthusiasts on this wonderful 5-day break.

Your Bridge Programme
Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, we try to include interesting bridge seminars, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.
Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.
Make your own way to the hotel where you will enjoy a welcome drink with dinner. This is followed by evening bridge.
Join us for a morning bridge session. The afternoon is free to enjoy your surroundings! Why not take a stroll through the Charlecote Park, where you could spot the deer!
After breakfast, we travel by coach to Broadway to board the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway
We sit back and relax as we enjoy a morning journey to Cheltenham Racecourse station, where our coach will be waiting to take us for an afternoon visit to Sudeley Castle.
Situated in the Cotswold countryside, Sudeley Castle & Gardens offers 1,000 years of royal history and is home to Lady Ashcombe and the Dent-Brocklehurst family.
Today, Sudeley Castle remains the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within the grounds. Queen Katherine Parr, the last and surviving wife of King Henry VIII, lived and died in the castle.
Henry himself, Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey, Queen Elizabeth I and Richard III have all played a part in Sudeley’s story. King Charles I found refuge here during the Civil War, when his nephew Prince Rupert established headquarters at the Castle. Following its ‘slighting’ on Cromwell’s orders at the end of the Civil War, Sudeley lay neglected and derelict for nearly 200 years.
Then in 1837, Sudeley was rescued by the wealthy Worcester glove-makers, brothers John and William Dent, who began an ambitious restoration programme, which was continued by their nephew, John Coucher Dent, when he inherited the castle in 1855. His wife, Emma Brocklehurst, threw herself enthusiastically into Sudeley’s restoration, at the same time forging strong links with the nearby town of Winchcombe. It is the results of Emma’s dedication that are so evident in the gardens and exhibitions at Sudeley today.
Sudeley Castle & Gardens is now the home of Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe, and her son, daughter and their families. The family is committed to the continued preservation of the castle, its treasures and the ongoing restoration and regeneration of the gardens. We enjoy plenty of free time to explore the Castle and beautiful Gardens this afternoon, before boarding the coach and heading back to the hotel.
We enjoy dinner, followed by evening bridge at the hotel.
This morning our EBU director will give an interesting seminar. Join us for an afternoon bridge session, followed by dinner and evening bridge.
After a leisurely breakfast, it is time to depart the hotel for your journey home.

This 3-star, AA rated hotel is beautifully located in the heart of Shakespeare Country, in a small rural hamlet just 4 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. This former farmhouse is brimming with character and offers homely and comfortable bedrooms, a charming restaurant, and relaxing bar. Take a stroll through the surrounding countryside to Charlecote Mill, where you can buy your own flour, and see the roaming deer along the banks of the River Avon in Charlecote Park. Bedrooms are equipped with private bathroom with ensuite facilities, complimentary WiFi, flat-screen TV, hair dryer, iron and board, and tea and coffee-making facilities.
