Join us at the Vila Gale Lagos in the Algarve for an overseas Christmas bridge holiday. Our beautiful resort hotel is ideally located on the Lagos seafront and along the sandy Meia Praia Beach, just a 20-minute walk from Lagos Marina. Lagos is one of the Algarve’s most popular destinations, with its historic old town, modern marina and abundance of cultural attractions. With its traditional centre, stunning beaches and historic core, Lagos has something for everyone, offering cultural attractions to explore and beautiful scenery to enjoy. It’s easy to lose yourself amidst its winding cobbled streets and architectural sights. The historic centre of Lagos is home to the pedestrianised calçada streets which are lined with an array of bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops.
In addition to our bridge sessions and seminars, we also include an excursion to Sagres, Cape Saint Vincent and Lagos, where we soak in awe-inspiring views from the cliffs at the ‘End of Europe’ and learn about history of Lagos as well as enjoying lunch in a local restaurant. Your Bridge Programme
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.
Bridge will also be offered some mornings or afternoons. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
We also try to include interesting bridge seminars as part of your programme, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.
During your holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programme also allows time to relax, giving you the opportunity to explore the surrounding area.

Bridge this afternoon is followed by an evening of teams sessions (draw for team mates).
Today we include a full day excursion to Sagres, Cape Saint Vincent and Lagos. We depart by coach with our local guide and travel to Sagres, home of the School of Navigation where Prince Henry’s sailors set out to explore the world. The small fishing port is perched on windswept cliffs at the south-western extremity of Portugal.
From here, we continue to Cape Saint Vincent. You’ll be awestruck by the dramatic 200-foot-high cliffs, known as ‘The End of Europe’, which were once believed to be the end of the world during the Middle Ages. The views out over the Cape are magnificent!
Our last stop is Lagos, which has a fascinating and chequered past. It is here that the first African slave auctions were held, and its shipyards built the caravels which sailed on historical voyages of exploration. The Old Town is home to the ornately gilded Chapel of Santo Antonio, the Statue of Prince Henry the Navigator, and the site of the former slave market. We enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before we return to the hotel later this afternoon.

The 4-star Vila Gale is a beautiful resort hotel located on the Lagos seafront, along the sandy Meia Praia Beach and just a 20-minute walk from Lagos Marina. Relax at in the resort's Satsanga Spa and wellness centre, which includes a gym, sauna, steam bath and massage room (at additional cost). There is an indoor swimming pool as well as a huge outdoor swimming pool in a 1,200 m² garden. The hotel has free Wi-Fi throughout, tennis courts and a putting green too. There are three restaurants and two bars serving delicious meals and drinks.
